Berlin’s Staatsoper Unter den Linden is coming to Brno for the very first time and is offering a number of Czech performances. The ensemble from Berlin is to present the opera The Makropulos Affair at the Janáček Theatre as directed by Claus Guth, who is one of the world’s leading artists (winner of the Oper! Award 2023 for Best Director) and who has staged works by Richard Strauss,
Richard Wagner and Georg Fridrich Handel. As far as Czech operas are concerned, he directed Bohuslav Martinů’s Julietta in 2016, but it was only six years later that his first Janáček followed with an outstanding production of Jenůfa for Covent Garden in Great Britain.

National Theatre’s Music Director Robert Jindra is to wield the baton, and we can look forward to a winner of two Grammy awards, German soprano Dorothea Röschmann, in the lead role of Emilia Marta. Czech singers Adam Plachetka, Aleš Briscein, Jan Martiník and Jan Ježek will also be appearing on stage.
You can choose from two dates – Saturday 16 November at 19:00 and Monday 18 November at
19:00.
