Verva

Verva is a jazz quartet that presents original modern work in an ambient guise. The group was founded by four classmates during their studies at the jazz department at Janáček Academy of Performing Arts (JAMU) in 2022 and has since become a regular fixture on the Brno jazz scene. It appeals to the audience with a distinctive ethereal sound evoking the music of such performers as Bill Frisell and Mathias Eick. Verva’s repertoire consists of original works by all its members as well as jazz standards in modern arrangements. Their unique approach is characterised by the elegant symbiosis of the sound of the cimbalom and electric guitar accompanied by the energetic yet sensitive interplay of double bass and percussion. The group was recognised on a wider stage in 2023 when it won the prize for the best original composition – Apogee – at the New Faces of Slovak Jazz competition in Bratislava.
